Frequently Asked Questions

How can I benefit from attending counselling?
Counselling provides a time and space for you to explore any areas of concern or growth. Counselling can address everyday struggles and lifelong challenges by relieving distress, bringing about personal insight, resolving specific problems, and providing tools to improve your relationship with yourself and others.
Are there any risks to attending counselling?
While counselling can be an excellent source of support it’s normal to experience stronger than usual emotions when exploring difficult topics and trying out new behaviours. If you feel uncomfortable with the interventions I suggest or with the pace, know that we can adjust things as needed.
How many sessions will I need?

The length of counselling can vary significantly from person-to-person. Usually in the first 4 sessions we will be getting to know one another, building trust, and establshing goals for the things you hope to accomplish in therapy. While individuals looking to work on a specific issue may only require 6-8 sessions, individuals seeking to change long-standing patterns will likely require 10 or more sessions.

What is your cancellation policy?

As your appointment time is held specifically for you 48 hours notice is required for all
cancellations. Cancellations or requests to reschedule that are made without 48 hours notice will
be charged the full session fee.

Is counselling covered by my extended health?
As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC#13309) my services are covered by a number of extended health benefit plans. Please consult with your service provider to determine the type of coverage you have. Clients are responsible for paying for sessions and then submitting their claim to their insurance provider. On request, a receipt will be provided for you to submit for reimbursement.
Do you see individuals who are approved through the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP)?
Yes, I’m an approved provider of counselling services through CVAP. If you’re approved through CVAP you’ll need to provide me with a claim number and statement indicating the number of sessions that have been approved.
Do you have a reduced rate for counselling?
I reserve a small percentage of my caseload for individuals who are not able to pay the standard counselling fees. If cost is a concern please ask me about this at the onset of therapy.
Do you provide consultations?
Yes, as finding a counsellor who is a good fit can be difficult to gauge without a personal connection, I offer free 15-minute phone consultations for all potential clients. During our consultation you’ll get a feel for what you can expect from working with me and may ask any questions you have.
